Our history began in Hong Kong with the original electrification of East Rail works and the provision of 132kV power distribution networks in Kowloon in the early 1970s. With the growth of opportunities during the early 1990's with major infrastructure projects, Balfour Kilpatrick, the long-established E&M arm of Balfour Beatty in UK, commenced operations with its involvement in various Chek Lap Kok Airport related projects. These projects included MTR Kowloon Station, Chek Lap Kok Landside Infrastructure and Electrical Distribution System & Cathay Pacific Catering Services Building.
In the late 1990's, reorganization of the Balfour Beatty regional businesses to provide focus on its long term view in Hong Kong resulted in Balfour Kilpatrick operations folding in as the E&M unit of Balfour Beatty's integrated operations for Hong Kong. Thus, E&M projects such as the West Rail Stations at Nam Cheong and Kam Sheung Road, the Airport Authority's East Hall Extensions, and MTR Tsim Sha Tsui Station Modifications were carried out under the combined business operations of Balfour Beatty Hong Kong from 1998 to 2004.
Following the merger with Gammon Construction operations in August 2004, the E&M business was then established as a subsidiary company of Gammon and became Gammon's E&M engineering and contracting arm. This stage of Balfour Beatty E&M's development now firmly opens a wide range of opportunities in civil and building projects both under integrated operations with Gammon and in continuing to support our other traditional main contractor partners.
